On August 12^th, 2019 I walked into Dr. Preston’s I felt kind of glad that I got your class once again for English because last year I learned a lot of life lessons and the thinks you taught. The lessons that really stood out to me were how to improve your critical thinking, memorizing, and public speaking. I also liked when we presented our own topic that we were really intrigued by and then presented to the class.

I found it very interesting because I have never had a class where the teacher let the students pick how the class was going to be taught. I also liked when you left the room for us the students to discuss about how the class would be taught. I also payed more attention to you because of how you could relate to us because you didn’t really like the way the school taught English and how they weren’t really teaching us life skills that we would later need.

My first time doing a journal I thought that it would not just be boring but, then you introduced topic that were interesting to learn about and from then on I liked doing them especially the ones where we would write down what was on our mind as soon as we walked in the classroom and the class started. I wasn’t really feeling the blogs because I didn’t really feel comfortable with my things on line and videos I just feel weird when I see myself in a video of some sort and hear my voice. The only other thing that I can think of that has been new to me has been the recent interview that we had because I had never done something like that and I am happy that I did it because now I can practice in interviews in order to get better.

A point where I felt the most tension was probably to do one of the poetry videos because I didn’t really want to put a video of me where I saw myself and other people could see it and I was really shy to do it. But then I said to myself hey this is to build up my skills in memorization and to help me in life like to remember stuff like building an engine in a car since I want to be a mechanic.

I don’t really have a routine for doing stuff I just do it when I know its important. I have made up a few blogs that I knew were important and then went back and did them. I am a different learner than the learner that I was in August because I now know how to write better, but I still need to work on my speaking a bit and how to present myself better for an interview like adding context to my answers. I have also learned a lot of vocabulary that will help me in the future because im guessing that we will be more advanced in technological.

Self Reliance

Nothing is at last sacred but the integrity of your own mind. 

·Do not only act good to look good do good as well

·Do not only do things just to look good but to really do good to what you are intrested in

For nonconformity the world whips you with its displeasure.

Being like everyone else will just make you like a drone and be like everyone else but if you seperate yourself and be yourself then you will be true to yourself and not fit in because the world is about fitting in but when you are your true self then you'll feel good when you do things that are good instead of doing things that make you look good.

Emerson talks about the different stages of how your development is and I completely agree with him because he is right when we were young we were filled with energy and didnt question anything but as we got older we grew a conscience of our own and questioned everything we did or thought

On Self Reliance

My first impression of the Self Reliance essay excerpt is that it has a lot of meaningful thought put into in it because it talks about alot of stuff that relates and that is true to most of us around the world

The Pedestrian Goes for A Walk

It had been long since people went outside and did active and social activities. In Bradbury's story it shows how he feels about technology by the tone he tells the story in. The character he chooses to represent himself in the story he is telling and the plot of the whole story.

The tone he uses to tell the story is as he is disappointment in the human race for allowing themselves to be enslaved to their own entertainment. He states this in the story by saying " as he peered down which road to go toward ... It made no difference he was alone in the year 2053 A.D." He is predicting that soon technology will take over and people wont want to go outside and enjoy the fresh air and the scenery of the outside world.

The plot he uses for the story is fairly simple because it just has hive walking down the street getting stopped arrested and just driving away in the back of a police car. But when he gets stopped it is not a police officer but only a car and apparently it is the only law enforcement that people need in that time period. I think he puts this in and saying that the one patrol car is the only law enforcement because it shoes how technology has really taken over. Rather than having the 40 to 60 police officers protecting and serving it has 1 very advanced piece of technology. And that it is a crime or rather weird if people go for walks because people don't do it in that time period .

The character that Bradbury chooses to use for his story are the futuristic talking car and a man that takes walks regularly

The event that occurred to Ray Bradbury really helped set the tone, character, and plot of the story because it is really relatable

SAME WORDS DIFFERENT PEOPLE

The conversation we had in class today about are definitions was different because the words that didn't have definitions people came up with different ways of interpreting the word that they understand.

How I Read

How I feel about how I read is that i need the story to be interesting or something that is really intriguing and that you can actually enjoy. And if you get an assignment with your reading then it will be so much easier to do it. But if you have an assignment that has to know every little thing that happens then you wouldn't enjoy reading the book.

Young Old Good Bad

I think that Hawthorne wrote "Young Goodman Brown" the way he did in order to make us see the things that our mind can do whether the encounter with the devil was real or whether the devil signified all the bad that he thought was there about all the people that he knew and wanted to distrust them for that reason.

Impression of a Dream

My first impression of the poem is that it tells a lot in it. It talks about whether reality is a dream or the dream is the reality. I think that when you dream of something that has occurred in your day its just your brain telling you your own perspective on the topic. Or what you are really thinking about that person or topic. Like when you watch a scary movie you might have a nightmare about it because you found it to be something that you are really scared of.

MY ESSAY ESSAY

Young Goodman's Brown experience changed the way he looked at the world when he had a supposedly dream or actually experience an encounter with the devil. The moral out of this whole story is that the things you go through whether it is fiction or not can drastically change on how you view things. Throughout the story it was really fore shadowing the fate that the protagonist was gonna have.

Young Goodman's Brown encounter with the Devil had him losing everyone around him it started when the Devil talked to Brown's old teacher and to his surprise the old woman was friends with the Devil. I believe that the devil was trying to make him see all the people he ever cared about as some bad people that lied to him throughout his life. Eventually it started talking about a pink ribbon which his wife wore and that symbolized her. In the beginning of the story the author introduced us to his wife which was faith, later when Young Goodman Brown is arguing with the Devil that he can not continue forward in the path  because he is  attached to his wife faith the ribbon later the ribbon falls from the sky which symbolizes him losing all faith in himself that he could get through without following the devil. As he lost the last person that was helping him to fight the temptation he gave in and became this really cranky and rude person.

THE MEDIUM IS THE MESSAGE

It is important to know how to communicate with someone using the appropriate way like when its buissness you can't use casual talk like " c u later" because what if the person doesnt get it. You can also have a meeting with that person of thats better than an email. You must have an idea of what medium or the way you are sending is because it matters when it all depends on the person you are talking to.

SO THIS GUY GOES FOR A WALK

My first impression of this story is that it is a very detailed story where is has many elements of a giving alot of information in a short paragraph. Text like these have to be analyzed alot because they give you alot of information that you need to figure out what it is

Making of an Essay

My experience with writing an essay has been an (meh) experience I've had both good and bad experiences somewhere I thought I did the essay right and some where I just did it and didn't stress about it.

Communication Strategies of a Hacker

The authors diction in the story is both simple and sophisticated because he wants a lot of people to understand his message. His syntax is all over the place because he has long and short sentences. And he has a different attitude throughout his story.

Conscience of a HACKER

I actually think that the hacker is right and speaks the truth because that is how the world actually is people think that hacking is bad but its only bad if you have an ill intent. And hes right how can they call hackers criminals when all they are guilty of is being curious
